Acting Workshops at Studio 3

ACTING WORKSHOPS

Did you know… that when directors are making final decisions on casting a show, it almost always comes down to who can ACT the part the best. Do you know what it takes to get ahead in acting and shine in any role?

Studio 3 is here with some amazing workshop offerings to help you gain confidence in your auditions, build a portfolio of acting materials, and discover the top tips for realistic, genuine acting.

Make a Cold Read Hot
Time Commitment: 2 Thursdays – August 17 and 24 from 7-8:30pm
Age/Level: Suggest Actors ages 11 and up
Instructor: Kathleen Richards
Description: Learn how to make quick and instinctive choices in the audition room. Whether you’ve seen the script before, or get only a minute to prepare, we’ll talk about the priorities of preparing for a cold read, and making the right choices to help you stand out. We will work with a variety of scripts in a mock audition format and will feature the callback sides for the upcoming Side Show Musical. Students will be given direction and asked to make adjustments on the fly
Cost: $30 per person.

Jr Character Development Workshop
Time Commitment: 3 Fridays – September 1, 8, 15 from 4:30-6pm
Age/Level: Suggest Actors ages 6-12
Instructor: Jamie Bauer-Spano
Description: This is a MUST-take class for anyone looking to build their acting technique this season. When you’re building a character, you want to spend as much time developing the outside as the inside.Learn to physicalize AND vocalize different characters and how you can apply that in an audition or performance setting. We’ll teach you how to build your character’s reality and portray realistic, believable character traits.
Cost: $50 per person.

Sr Character Development Workshop
Time Commitment: 1 Fridays – November 11 from 10am-2pm
Age/Level: Suggest Actors ages 11-19
Instructor: Jamie Bauer-Spano
Description: This is a MUST-take class for anyone looking to build their acting technique this season. Broadway Musical Theatre Workshop & Book Talk

Time Commitment: Saturday, November 19 from 1-4pm with FREE Book Talk 4-5pm
Age/Level: Suggest Actors ages 9-18
Instructor: NYC Master Acting Coach & Backstage.com Expert Denise Simon
Description: Mastering the audition and acing the CALLBACK! One-day workshops are fun and intense experiences that heighten learning and produce noticeable improvement in skill and craft. Exposure to master teachers from NYC offer a unique opportunity to expand range and depth instilling confidence and broadening repertoire. Students will learn what casting directors are looking for, how to audition properly with cold copy and rehearsed material, find appropriate song choices as well as breaking down the acting of their song. Material will be given in advance so we can concentrate on preparing for a callback and acing the audition!

Denise Simon, acting coach and career consultant, is a veteran of the industry as an actress, teacher, director, and personal talent manager. Her clients appear on Broadway, TV, and film, and have included Scarlett Johansson, Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino, and Judy Reyes (NBC’s Scrubs), among others. She also coaches college bound students to prepare them for theatre and musical theatre auditions. Denise’s on-set coaching credits include Fox’s “The Following” as well as the award winning TV show “Teen Kids News.” She is an expert contributor to Backstage Magazine.

    BUILDING THE FLOAT - We need several parent volunteers to help build and paint the float on Friday evening during rehearsal. If you are able to help, please respond to the post on Facebook on the SS or 3DC pages. If you can come in at all before Friday to help assemble things that would be appreciated as well.

  • 6:00pm Gilbert Days Parade rehearsal - All Companies required and All Studio 3 students welcome to participate

    We will rehearse from 6-9pm at the Studio. Please wear your black and white converse shoes. Hair should be in a high ponytail for rehearsal. You do not need to be in costume for rehearsal.

  • 7:00am Gilbert Days Parade - Entire Studio - Time TBA

    Wear your company jacket zipped up (black tank underneath) with long black leggings (boys wear pants) and your black and white low top converse shoes. You need to be there at the float no later than 7:15am. Judges will come around at 7:45am and the parade begins at 8:30am. Girls have your hair in a curly high ponytail and wear your rhinestone earrings and full stage makeup. This year's lipcolor is Rimmel Longlasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss-Plum 030.
